Traveling Across Portugal? Here is our itinerary
1. Arrive in Porto for a 3 night stay

Arrive in Porto and walk through the cobbled streets of the Ribera, enjoy the medieval city center and watch an F.C. Porto soccer game. If you have sometime try to take a boat down Douro Valley and trial Port Wine from the vineyards that created it
2. Drive, train, bus or fly to Lisbon for a 3 night stay
-
Explore the capital, take a day trip to explore Sintra, relax on Comporta beaches or the crystal blue beaches in Setúbal
3. Drive, bus or fly over to Algarve for 3 nights
-
Relax beachside in Albuferia, Lagos or Portimao. Explore the caves, go golfing, kayaking or have a boat day
The Food

Please note when eating at restaurants that Portugal, like most european countries, has slower service as waiters are trained to give you time and space to enjoy the environment​

Pastel De Nata - custard pastry, you must get them in Lisbon!!

Bitoque - portuguese steak made with a red wine garlic sauce

Bacalhau - salted cod dish, they make it several different ways (Bacalhau com Natas is our fav - lots of cheese)

Francesinha - famous from Porto, a steak sandwich topped in a tomato wine sauce, cheese and egg. Warning this is a very large and filling sandwich!

Carne de porco à alentejana Pork loin, fresh little neck clams in a vinho verde sauce
-
Vinho Verde - ‘green’ wine, Casal Garcia is the most known from the country
-
Pulpo - Octopus generally seasoned in paprika and garlic
-
Sande de Pernil - Roasted garlic pork sandwich
-
Caldo Verde Grandmas favorite soup to make, if you go to a multiple course restaurant, they most likely will serve you this

Rojões à moda do Minho - our traditional pork and potato dish cooked in a white-wine garlic sauce
-
Churrasco - grilled meat (you can pick from different steak cuts, pork or chicken) usually served with fries or with piri piri sauce

Piri Piri - Spicy chili-garlic sauce, usually on or served with chicken
-
Alheira - Traditional sausage made with meat and bread

Bifana - traditional steak sandwich

Rissois de camarao or Bife - shrimp or beef “dumpling”

Chourico Assado - usually cooked right in front of you in a little pig terracotta pot watch out for that flame

Port Wine - A sweet dessert wine that is made only from the grapes grown in Douro

Vino Tinto - Homemade red wine also know as vino casaro

Douro Valley
The Douro Wine Region Valley is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world
& where Port Wine was originated
Places to see/things to do:

Douro Valley Wine Tour - generally start in Peso De Régua or Pinhão or do a tour by boat, there are some that leave from Porto
-
Stay at a quinta (vineyard) and you can tour the grounds and try wine, highly recommend Quinta de Pacheca but you can stay at one place and go to multiple vineyards in the region

Palácio da Bolsa - charming palace with beautiful architecture and traditional Portuguese tiling

Quinta da Roêda - Vineyard that created/exports Croft Port
-
Sandeman Vineyards - Largest Port Wine exporter in the region, you can also tour the grounds which has views of the river

Baloiço do Bestança - Hidden Swimming hole off the Douro river
